Santaka is a collaborative project of Marijus Aleksa, Manfredas and friends so giving their first album to remix into the hands of some of the closest was only natural. New versions come from Nik Colk Void, Andrei Rusu, and wavesovspace.
Andrei Rusu, one-half of Buharest/Berlin duo Khidja and old-time friend was one of the first people to visit Santaka studio in Vilnius, appearing on the demo that yet was to find it’s shape as “No Rivers Here”.
As Andrei was involved in the birth of the composition, also later in mixing some of our stuff and simply is a producer we like very much, we thought it would be interesting to let him imagine his final version of it. Nice to see it morph into a dance-floor track, one for the back pockets of DJ’s operating in the small hours of the night. Or morning.
Around the same time we’ve been hearing about other Khidja member Flore aka wavesofspace starting to produce solo stuff as-well, so we thought it would be also very interesting to give him different track from our debut to work on. Now we have both members of the same band, on the same record, but in their own right, with two very different takes. wavesovspace (making first appearance) stays truest to the experimental nature of the original version of “Opening Chasms”, assembling the weirdest bits into something completely new.
Manfredas had Nik Colk Void over to Vilnius to play in 2022, and suggested she remix ‘555’. He also finds Nik as one of the favourite artists and a big inspiration for Santaka. Nik strips down the track to its essence – which she does the best. Naturally means it will work in the rooms with a nice systems.
